MTA考研英语每日单词:

1、project n. /ˈprɒdʒekt/ v. /prəˈdʒekt/

project作名词时我们比较熟悉,但是project也可作动词,两个词性的发音不一样,注意音标的区别。

project作名词,意为”项目,工程,方案”,也可指学校的“专题研究”。

Money will also go into local development projects in Vietnam.

钱也会用于越南的地方发展项目当中。

The project aims to provide an analysis of children’s emotions.

该计划旨在对儿童情绪作出分析。

In our third year at college everyone had to do a special project.

大学三年级时,每个人必须做一项专题研究。

project也可作动词,常见的意思有两个。

第一,意为“规划,计划,预计”,这个意思常用被动。

The company projected an annual growth rate of 3%.

该公司预计每年的增长率为3%。

The next edition of the book is projected for publication in March.

本书的下一版计划于三月发行。

第二,意为“投射,放映”,加上后缀-or变成projector就是常见的“投影仪,放映机”。

The team tried projecting the maps with two different projectors onto the same screen.

这个小组想用两台不同的投影仪把这些地图投射到同一个屏幕上。

Ninety percent of the projected missiles will hit their target.

发射的导弹中90%将命中目标。

2、prolong /prəˈlɒŋ/

prolong是动词,意为“延长”,只有这一个意思。

We were having such a good time that we decided to prolong our stay by another week.

我们过得非常愉快,决定再多待一个星期。

Doctors commented that some patients deliberately prolong their treatment.

医生说有些病人故意延长治疗时间。

3、prominent /ˈprɒmɪnənt/

prominent是形容词,意为“显眼的,突出的”,也可指“著名的,重要的”。

New books are displayed in a prominent position on tables at the front of the shop.

新书陈列在商店前方桌上的一个显眼位置。

He played a prominent part in the campaign.

他在这次运动中发挥了重要作用。

She was a prominent member of the city council.

她是市政委员会的重要人物。

4、promise /ˈprɒmɪs/

promise是个常见词,主要有两个意思,作名词和动词都可以。

第一,意为“承诺,保证”,作名词就是“诺言”。

He had promised that the rich and privileged would no longer get preferential treatment.

他已经保证富人和特权阶层不会再得到优惠待遇。

If you make a promise you should keep it; you ought not to break a promise.

你如果作出允诺就得遵守;你不应该违背诺言。

第二,意为“有可能,有希望”,作名词就是“迹象,希望”,这个意思需要注意。

While it will be fun, the seminar also promises to be most instructive.

这次的研讨会不仅会有趣,而且有可能会颇具启发意义。

His English teacher had written on his report that he showed great promise.

英语老师在他的成绩单中写说他前景看好。

The clouds give promise of rain.

云预示会下雨。

5、promising /ˈprɒmɪsɪŋ/

promising是形容词,意为“有希望的,有前途的”。

They won the award for the most promising new band of the year.

他们赢得了该年度最有前途新进乐团奖。

A school has honoured one of its brightest and most promising former pupils.

一所学校给曾在这里就读的最聪明、最有前途的一位学生授予了荣誉头衔。

6、promote /prəˈməʊt/

promote是动词,意为“促进,推动”,“推销,推广”,还可指“提升,晋升”某人,这个意思常用被动。

You don't have to sacrifice environmental protection to promote economic growth.

不必为了促进经济增长而牺牲环境保护。

Greenpeace works to promote awareness of the dangers that threaten our planet today.

绿色和平组织致力于促使人们更了解当前威胁地球的危机。

They are using famous personalities to promote the library nationally.

他们利用名人在全国各地宣传该图书馆。

She worked hard and was soon promoted.

她工作勤奋,不久就得到提升了。

Helen was promoted to senior manager.

海伦被提升为高级经理。

7、prompt /prɒmpt/

prompt这个词有多种词性,常见的是作动词和形容词。

prompt作动词,意为“促使,引起”。

Japan's recession has prompted consumers to cut back on buying cars.

日本经济的不景气使得消费者在购买车辆上减少了开支。

Recent worries over the president's health have prompted speculation over his political future.

最近对总统健康状况的担忧引发了对其政治前途的猜测。

prompt作形容词,意为“及时的,迅速的”。

They're usually fairly prompt in dealing with enquiries.

他们回覆咨询通常都比较快。

Prompt action was required as the fire spread.

由于火势蔓延,需要立即采取行动。

8、prone /prəʊn/

prone是形容词,常用在be prone to sth或者 be prone to do sth,意为“有…的倾向,易于…”,这个意思不太好记忆,多看例句就很容易理解了。

For all her experience, she was still prone to nerves.

尽管有经验,她还是容易紧张。

Working without a break makes you more prone to error.

连续工作不停歇使人更容易出错。

She's prone to exaggerate, that's for sure.

她喜欢夸大其词,这一点是肯定的。

9、pronounce /prəˈnaʊns/

pronounce是动词,意为“发…音”,也可以指“正式宣布…,宣称”,用这个意思时,除了直接加宾语外,还可加宾语补足语,例句中的宾语补足语已用下划线标出。

She pronounced his name so badly he didn't even recognise it.

念他的名字时她发音如此不标准以至于连他本人都没听出来。

The jury pronounced him guilty.

陪审团宣布他有罪。

I now pronounce you man and wife.

我现在宣布你们结为夫妻。

She pronounced him the winner of the competition.

她宣布他是竞赛的优胜者。

He pronounced the country to be in a state of war.

他宣布全国进入战争状态。

She pronounced that an error had been made.

她宣称曾经有个错误。

10、proof /pruːf/

proof主要作名词,意为“证据,证明”,注意例句中常见用法。

You have to have proof of residence in the state of Texas, such as a Texas ID card.

你必须有在得克萨斯州的居住证明,比如得克萨斯身份证。

Have you any proof of that allegation?

关于那种说法你可有什么证据?

There is no proof that the knife belonged to her.

没有证据证明那把刀子是属于她的。
